Review: Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Where do I even begin with this book, holy hell! I discovered this book on book-tube, everyone I watch was talking about it and so I decided to pick up and give it ago. And I am so so glad that I did because this is one of the most enjoyable reads I have had in awhile.

This book is so unbelievably heartwarming and fluffy and I haven't stopped smiling since I started this book this afternoon. The balance between the serious moments, the funny moments and the fluffy moments were perfect and I am in love with the friendships between Simon, Leah, Abby and Nick. The bond they share just feels so nature and realistic and felt like my own friends from home, and the relationship he has with his family was so refreshing to see; the support that they show him is wonderful. To see a circle of friends and family be so open and accepting is just so uplifting and was awesome to see how it panned out. Also not spoil anything I won't name names, but the relationship that Simon forms with Blue is one of the cutest things I have ever read, the progression between them was so nature and nothing felt forced. The emails between Simon and Blue were adorable and when things took a turn it was so heartbreaking to watch (or read I suppose). These boys are easily one of my favourite literary couples to date and I would love to read so much more about them and their beautiful relationship with one another.

This book has such a wonderfully diverse cast of characters that all so lovable and recognisable in day to day life that it gives the story a much more realistic feel and made connecting with the characters all the more wonderful! Also Ms. Albright is the best damn teacher, honestly if I had had a teacher like her in school my life would have been ten times easier.

This book does feature a kid getting outted so be wary of that if it's something that could effect you, but as someone who has had to come out many a time in his life, I really felt the impact of the scene and the emotion that the character was feeling during. I wouldn't wish being outed on anyone, as the book addresses - coming out is something personal and something that should only be done by one's self.

I'm giving Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda 5 out of 5 stars because it freaking deserves it! One of the more heartwarming, adorably, fluffy books I have read in a while and a wonderful LGBTQ+ YA novel - everyone should read it! <3
